Media Pass Policy

EPIC does Essence welcomes qualified members of the Press to its events. We offer Press passes to qualified professional journalists as a service to the industry, to add value for exhibitors and sponsors and to help promote the event.
Press passes for EPIC does Essence provides access to:
• EPIC does Essence Welcome Reception
• "Get Lit" Rooftop Party
• STRUT: Fashion Experience
• "Up in Smoke" Day Party

Press Badges are provided to media professionals who work for established print, online and broadcast news organizations, and/or industry recognized associations, firms or media agencies. Press Badges will also be granted on a case-by-case basis, and through invitations to cover the event.
 
EPIC Events & Productions LLC reserves the right to revoke Press Badges at any time. Press Badges will not be granted to anyone whose principal purpose for the event is, in our judgment, for reasons other than covering them as working news media.
In exchange for providing you with a free full-event pass, we request that you share your article, blog post, video, write up, recap, review or social media coverage of the event you attend. You have 3-4 weeks after the conclusion of the event to send your coverage to EPIC does Essence (pr@epicdoesessence.com). 
 
You may also apply for more than one pass per publication as long as each individual provides coverage. In turn, we will cross-promote your piece on our social media accounts and the news section on our event sites. If no coverage is provided within the given time frame, the full conference fee will be charged.

who is eligible?

Press Badges are provided to:
  • Media professionals who work for or freelance reporters working with established print, online and broadcast news organizations. 
  • Marketing or Public Relations individuals from industry recognized associations, firms or media agencies. 
  • Lifetstyle and/or Travel Bloggers with specific interest in African American Travel, Culture, & Lifestyle
  • Press Badges will also be granted on a case-by-case basis, and through invitations to cover the event.

To qualify as Press:

1.) Print and newswire reporters must provide BOTH:
 

  • A company business card that must show your name, title and company name, and;

  • A bylined industry-related article* from your publication written by you that shows your byline and that was published within the last three months.

*Examples of fashion, or special event industry articles about the creative industry in general: trends, conferences, festivals, trade shows, etc. 
 

2.) Freelance Reporters

Freelance reporters and photographers, marketing, PR, business development or other industry executives who contribute bylined articles to news outlets, online sites or blogs may attend on behalf of established news organizations or associations.

To qualify as Press, freelance reporters must provide BOTH:

  • A letter from a director/editor on organization letterhead stating that you are covering the event for their news organization or one recognized by their association, and;

  • A bylined industry-related article* from the publication/website/blog you are representing written by you that clearly shows your byline and that was published within the last three months.

*Examples of fashion, or special event industry articles about the creative industry in general: trends, conferences, festivals, trade shows, etc. 

3.) Broadcast Journalists

To qualify as Press, broadcast journalists, photographers and videographers must provide TWO of the following:

  • A company business card that shows your name, title and company name, and/or;

  • A link to an article or page displaying your name on the masthead in an editorial capacity, and/or;

  • A letter from a producer/editor or director of a journalistic association on company letterhead with contact information stating that you are on assignment.

Please Note: Each member of a broadcast crew must register separately. A link to newscast video may also be submitted.

 

4.)  Digital Media Journalists

To qualify as Press, digital media journalists must provide the following:
 

  • A recent monthly traffic report from an external demographic tool, like Google Analytics, or Facebook Pixel verifying the online publication or blog gets a minimum of 5,000 or more unique monthly visitors (UMVs). The site must be previously established, independent and regularly updated with original content and current creative industry news*.

AND

  • A company business card that shows your name, title and company name, or;

  • Masthead from a current issue of a creative industry online publication or blog listing you as an editorial contributor.

*Examples of fashion, or special event industry articles about the creative industry in general: trends, conferences, festivals, trade shows, etc. 
 

5.) Event & Lifestyle Industry Bloggers/Digital Content Creators

Industry bloggers/digital content creators must provide proof that you have a combined reach across all platforms, of a minimum of 5,000 to of may quality to receive a press badge.
 

6.) Creative Industry Influencers

Industry influencers  must have  the following  to receive a press badge:

  • Minimum of 50,000 on any one platform or Minimum of 150,000 across all platforms

  • Proven record of direct impact.  

Response time (from which you post to followers taking action) less than 1 week

Engagement (as measured by reposts and link clicks) should be 3% or higher**
